Travel Tips Part 1: Staying on the Ground
Here are a few of our “out of the norm” travel tips. We give you a checklist of things to not forget with your paperwork. Here are a few extras for you to think about and do when possible.
Scan all documents
Scan all of your important documents especially if you are leaving the country. It will never hurt to have an extra copy of your passport, social security card, or license sitting around just incase something were to be lost or stolen. Scanning your documents can save a lot of time and confusion as well as avoid ruining a vacation.
Avoid wearing flashy jewelry
Jewelry is unnecessary for an average day on vacation. The extra bling draws attention to you and it’s likely unwanted attention. Some destinations are known for pickpocketing and you don’t want to fall victim to that. Even if you are visiting a place that is not known for pickpocketing, jewelry can always be lost.
Don’t be afraid to sit and watch
When you’re away from home and in a crowded environment, it can be entertaining to pull up a seat on a busy street and observe. Yes, running around to all the tourist sites is fun at first but to actually get the local experience you have to sit and watch. Give it a try and you might find out that pulling up a chair on your favorite street is your new favorite vacation activity.
Don’t fill your suitcase before you get there, fill it while you’re away
Don’t pack your suitcase full before you leave to go on vacation. In our experience, you will absolutely find new things to buy while you are away so pack the essentials and leave out what you can so you don’t have to lug an extremely heavy bag or suitcase home.
